As part of National Careers Week, students at Clacton Coastal Academy enjoyed numerous events to start them thinking about their future careers. New this year was an “Inspiring Girls” talk. Five women from very different careers backgrounds, including engineering, sports and recreation and the Merchant Navy came in to share their experiences and advice. Year 10 student Alex Green said: “It was really interesting hearing these women talk about how they had got into their careers and what had inspired them to follow that path. It certainly made me think and now I am more determined than ever to succeed.”

This session was followed by 13 different guest speakers from areas as diverse as hospitality, law, financial services and motor mechanics. Each student got the opportunity to choose their own talk and ask questions about how they could succeed in that careers area. Tracey Hemming, Principal commented: “As always, our guests had nothing but praise for our students, remarking on how welcome they were made to feel and the variety of questions that students had prepared to ask. These events are crucial to prepare students for the important decisions they have to make about their future.”
