Clacton Coastal Academy have taken the initiative this year to hold their own Careers Fair as funding for the annual Tendring wide careers fair was cut. Sixth formers as well as students from years 9, 10, and 11 had the opportunity to talk to 50 local and national businesses about their future careers prospects.
A wide variety of industries came along including representatives from Chelsea FC Foundation, BNY Mellon Global Investments, RAF Careers, Essex County Cricket, Royal Institute for Chartered Surveyors, Ministry of Justice, Barclays Bank, EASI Hairdressing Academy and Chan Neill Solicitors.
Colleges and universities such as University of East Anglia, Colchester Institute, Otley College and Anglia Ruskin University were also in attendance and were able to showcase to students the wide variety of courses that are available to them.
Year 10 student Ben said: “It has been a great experience today. I have really enjoyed talking to all the different companies about what they can offer. It has made me realise how much choice there is but it has also given me a goal to work to and now I am more determined than ever to go to university.”
Principal, Tracey Hemming commented: “An event like this, which inspires students to think carefully about their future and what they need to secure academically to achieve their goals, is vital. When it was clear that the funding for the Tendring event had been cut we went straight ahead with organising our own version, which we have also opened up to TESS students.
We are incredibly grateful to all the exhibitors for their time and their very positive response to our initiative. It has been a great success; I believe our students have been truly inspired which is what it is all about! I hope that today has opened their eyes to what they can achieve. I look forward to this becoming a successful annual event.”
