Essex County Cricket Club Visit CCA

CCA has launched a cross-curricular project using cricket to raise student aspirations. We have signed up to Essex County Cricket Club’s ‘Inspirational Schools’ initiative, which looks at raising achievement, aspirations and awareness of cricket and sport through adventurous crosscurricular activities.

Alongside the specialist coaching, students took part in other lessons including PE, Media Studies and Maths, all of which had a cricketing focus.

The most exciting part of the day saw the pupils use ‘Pitchvision’, an innovative piece of equipment currently being piloted by professional cricket teams that measures the speed, direction, bounce and pitch of all bowled deliveries.

This was used to great effect during a Maths lesson, where teachers led an investigation into the distribution of professional cricketer’s bowling lengths.

Prior to this event, to tie in with the England and Wales Cricket Board’s National Cricket Day, Clacton Coastal Academy organised an action-packed day where professional Essex County Cricket Club cricketers Hannah Courtnell and Maurice Chambers led coaching sessions for students across various age groups, including a special introductory session for year 5 pupils at Cann Hall Primary School.

CCA has been identified as a school providing ‘excellent cricket opportunities’ by Essex County Cricket Club.

In recognition of this, Academy pupils will lead out the teams at the Essex v England Ashes warm up match on Sunday 30th June.

Students will provide a guard of honour for the players and watch the players in action afterwards.
