Sky Sports Living

This week our Sky Sports living year 8 Rugby group had their first athlete visit. CCA had the pleasure of entertaining Jeanette Kwakye; Great British and Olympic 100m sprinter. Jeanette shared her sporting journey with the students and how she made it to the 2008 Beijing Olympic final in the 100ms, Jeanette also shared how injury prevented her from entering the 2012 London Olympics. Her story was highly motivational and portrayed a message of determination and the importance of hard work.

Jeanette also lead the group on a number of fun team building activities that helped the students work together and build on their ability to communicate with others. The students had a fantastic time and are looking forward to working with Jeanette again in June.

Having an elite sprinter in the Academy for the day also meant that it was a fantastic opportunity for our BTEC National sixth form students to get an insight into the professional athletes lifestyle and training techniques. Jeanette spent the afternoon being interviewed by the year 12 and 13 students, they found the whole experience very informative and enjoyable.

The group left the day having had a brilliant time and so excited about the next session. Well done to all involved and I look forward to our next session on the 27th of March where the students will be taking part in a wheel chair basketball session.
