Dear Parents

I am writing to alert you that I have become aware of a potentially dangerous situation regarding private e mails on Facebook. Students have reported e mails arriving from a person they do not know purporting to be a female teenager. The content of the e mails is very sexually explicit and in some cases students are being invited to meet up.

I am certain that you are already aware of the risks associated with young people arranging meetings with others that they only know through the online world and I would ask you to be extra vigilant regarding your own children’s activity online.

Whilst Facebook is blocked at school we are aware that children are able to access via their own mobile devices and on other computers outside of the school.

Parents are advised to check their child’s Facebook or other social networking site pages and to monitor your children’s internet activity. Should you have any concerns regarding the safety of your child while online then please do visit the parents section of CEOP’s ThinkuKnow website at http://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/ where there is more information about helping to keep your child safe online and how to report potential concerns.

Yours Sincerely

S Tate

Assistant Vice Principal
