An Artistic Trip... A Day In Clacton Coastal Academy/ Eco-Toddlers

Children from Ravenscroft Primary School visited Clacton Coastal Academy on Thursday 17th June to join in with an eco-friendly sculpting session with Mrs Heffer. Mr Huntingford, teacher from Ravenscroft Primary School, got in touch with nature whilst assisting the children in their creative sculpting, alongside help from many others. The children were extremely friendly, talkative and keen to show some of their artwork. Best friends Katie and Charley; two of the Second Years from the primary school spoke enthusiastically about their time at Clacton Coastal. They explained how they learnt about dream-catchers and how they made them; the children have been creating their own personalised dream-catchers out of the sticks they collected from the woods and using multicoloured pipe-cleaners to bind them. Mrs Heffer, other teachers and helpers shared encouraging comments with the exceptionally well-mannered Year Twos who seemed extremely happy about their artwork. While the children took a break I had a chance to interview Mrs Heffer and ask her about her time sculpting with the children. "It's been a thoroughly enjoyable day, the kids have been fantastic and it's been an interesting experience to work with younger years". The event, organised by Mrs Wood from Ravenscroft Primary School, has all in all been a fantastic experience for teachers and younger years as it allowed them to become familiarised with the teachers in the secondary school and Clacton Coastal Academy itself.

Chesnut Grove Kindergarten

Penny Betts still remembers her Colbayns High School work experience at Engaines School in 2003 because it was constructive, fun, and she learned a lot. She knew she wanted to work with children and, when she was 18, she began work at Little Pals Nursery studying for a Level 2 qualification in childcare. Then she progressed to Letter Box Day Nursery where she studied for her Level 3 and, with her A level standard qualification, was recently hired as a "Room Leader" at Chestnut Grove where she is responsible for the very youngest Baby Blossoms. During her short time there she has transformed the room with more colour and movement, all stimulating the tiny blossoms. Penny smiles all the time. She is in her element interacting with the children and communicating with staff and parents. She happily hosted a Work Experience student from Clacton Coastal Academy recently and giggled when she started to call the school "Colbayns". But Penny understands the nature of change and is aware that she needs to stay updated. She loves her more responsible role and is considering a Foundation Degree at University.

Chelsea FC At The Academy

Chelsea FC visits Clacton Coastal Academy! On Friday 11th December approximately 100 Year 7 students took part in a Football workshop run by coaches from the Chelsea FC Football in the community programme.

The aim was to get pupils from both campuses of the new academy working together and highlight the fact that the two campuses are indeed one academy. Everybody had a really enjoyable time, the students mixed well and as commented on by the Chelsea football development manager were a credit to the academy.

Well done everybody!
