Menus
A reminder that students need to be through the gates at 8:20am to be "on time." Any arrival after that time will be recorded on their conduct card as "late."
Attendance
All students should aim for 100% attendance. This year we are measuring how many days are missed in a half term and shortly parents will receive a weekly text with this information.
A text will be sent following tutor time registration if a child has not registered with their tutor. This will ask you to call in with a reason if you have not already done so.
Term time holidays will not be authorised:
The current law does not give any entitlement to parents to take their child out of school during term time. The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 prohibits Head Teachers granting leave of absence to a pupil except where an application has been made in advance and the Head Teacher considers that there are exceptional circumstances relating to the application.
If parents do take children out of school for holidays, the absences will not be authorised and the Local Authority may issue a penalty notice to each parent of £60 for each child to be paid within 21 days. If the penalty is not paid within the time scale the penalty will increase to £120. If the higher penalty is not paid within 28 days, the Local Authority will then institute legal proceedings against the parent in the magistrate’s court under Section 444 of the Education Act 1996 for failing to ensure their child attends school regularly.
We offer a food bank service kindly donated by MCKS charity to any family that needs some extra support. Items will include staple food as well as toiletries. Parents/carers will need to contact the Academy and leave a message with the safeguarding team to order a food parcel. This can be done by calling the Academy and pressing option 5 when prompted.
Year 9 Options
With children likely spending more time online, now is a good time to remind parents of the risks certain websites, apps and social media can pose, so that they are aware of the steps they can take to protect their child. We’ve created a safeguarding hub that allows your pupils’ parents to access interactive guidance on setting up parental controls on their child’s devices, as well as guidance on apps like TikTok, YouTube and Instagram and more. Click here or on the banner to access the safeguarding hub.
