Music

The music department is looking forward to a busy and successful term. Singing club is now up and running on Wednesday’s at 3pm-4pm and we are busy rehearsing the songs for the December concert. A number of students have signed up for the violin group and I have been very pleased with the enthusiasm and commitment they have shown on their Monday rehearsals. We are hopefully going to start a ukulele orchestra very soon and some students are also learning the saxophone with Miss Barton. We plan to do a couple of numbers in the concert combining the violins, ukuleles and saxophone groups. Guitar lessons begin this week with our Essex music tutor Mr Tyler and our raising attainment coach Mr De’ath, who is an excellent drummer, has started to work with students in years 10 and 11. A number of students are also having piano lessons. Mr Austin is running a separate singing club to practice solos on a Friday so every day there is something going on. Lots of students are coming to practice at break and lunchtime and we have some very talented students around!

Some brilliant new equipment has been arriving including two new drum kits and all the staff are very excited by the new music computers which the school has purchased for us. They are state of the art enabling students to make professional sounding recordings of their compositions and performances. Also this week we have a visit from Chethams music school, Manchester, for gifted music students. They will be performing and discussing their instruments to the Year 10 BTEC students who are currently working on their performance module. Hopefully the students will be inspired by the visit and it will spur them on to ‘Make their best better’.
