Science

Some students from year 11 have benefitted from 3 sessions of high quality revision, designed to take students to A*, by attending the Colchester Royal Grammar school during April. Students found the experience very rewarding and I received excellent reports back from the grammar school that our students behaved impeccably and were very keen to learn.

Students and teachers gave up their time at Easter to take part in very well attended revision sessions from both GCSE and BTEC students. Reports from teachers were that a lot of very worthwhile work was completed, including one group who completed a piece of GCSE coursework from start to finish. Further revision sessions are planned for the Whitsun break.

A Science in the real world competition for year 9 is going to run later this term. It is open to all students. More information to follow so please watch the noticeboards. I do know that some very nice prizes are being lined up to include an IPad.

On June 30th we have been allocated 25 places for our year 10 students to attend the Royal Society’s Summer Science Exhibition in London. It should be an inspiring trip for our budding Chemists.

On Thursday the 6th of March, year six students from Whitehall academy visited the Science department. They took part in a number of activities based around the topic of space.

The students really enjoyed themselves and some quotes from them were: "I really don't want to leave, can I stay here?" “This is the best lesson ever.” "I am definitely coming to this school now!"

We are looking forward to the next school visiting us during this term.
