We are very much looking forward to our annual trip to the Battlefields this year, we are going from 12th-14th February and we are taking 44 Year 9 students! Every year it has been such a success and it has been, undoubtedly, a trip that is poignant and has meaning. What makes this year even more special is the fact that it is the year of the centenary – 100 years ago this bloody war began in 1914.

Whilst there we will visit the following sites:

Tyne cot, Ypres town, Langermark, Bayernwald trenches

In Flanders Field Museum and

Sanctuary Wood (muddy trenches)

We will also visit the Menin Gate on the first evening – 12th February, where we will listen to the last Post ceremony. On the second evening we go for a game of bowling and on the way home we visit a big shopping mall. Overall, the trip has proved to be both thought provoking and great fun.

In other news, we are running a History exhibition on the night of the 26th February and if anyone is interested in coming along to this then they would be more than welcome – they just need to ensure that they come and speak to Miss Beach beforehand and put names down. The exhibition will have a World War One museum station and there will be another stand encompassing both World Wars, focusing on some local history. There will be other stands available to look at as well; this promises to be a fun evening, even if you only pop along for 10 minutes! Do not forget though – come and see Miss Beach to put your name down if you will be attending.
