Last week Mrs Duthie launched the “Boost your Six Pack” with some of the maths classes in year 8. The aim of this programme is to encourage more students to achieve a level 6 or higher over a 6 week period. Points can be earned for classwork, effort, homework, MyMaths and assessments. Remember that you can come along to the MyMaths clinic on a Wednesday after school. We are really looking forward to seeing the results of this – Miss Bell has already stated that her year 8’s have done fantastically well in their last assessment so keep up the good work guys!

Year 10 – Number and Measure

Year 10 students will have just completed a mock exam in number and measure by the time the newsletter goes to print. This is a level 1 or 2 qualification being offered to all students in year 10 to give them exam experience and prepare them fully for the GCSE in year 11. There are 2 sections to the exam but they are both sat on the same day. The date of this exam is Thursday 8th May so please ensure that if you are in year 10 that you are in all lessons, completing all work set and making the most of the chances you are being given. This is a great opportunity to boost your qualifications and not only say you have a GCSE in maths but also a Level 1 or 2 qualification in number and measure.

Year 11 are really getting into the final stages of preparation for their GCSE exam now. We have mock exams being sat during the week of the 17th March and many students have really turned their attitudes around to make the most of the time they have left. We are currently running a breakfast club in Sammy Jo’s where year 11s can earn a free breakfast if they turn up at 8am and work hard with Mr Stevenson in the study centre and then there are the various after school revision sessions. We even have students turning up at 4pm on Monday afternoons to do an extra hour in the community centre with Mrs Neill. Keep going year 11 – all of this hard work will pay off when you open those results envelopes in August!
