We have just finished an extremely busy half term which saw our Year 11 French and Spanish groups complete their GCSE. Our students studying German completed their papers on Wednesday and seemed quite happy. We must now keep our fingers crossed that they all achieve the levels of success that they deserve.

However, this does not mean the end of public exams for us in MFL for this year. We still have students preparing to take A levels in French and Greek and GCSEs in Polish and for the first time Arabic. We wish them all well.

Sadly we have had to say goodbye to Lilian, our French assistant for the past two years. He was a very popular member of staff who worked particularly with our upper school French classes. He has returned to France to begin a career as a teacher in a primary school there.

In May we took a group of students to the regional finals of the “Have your say” competition held at Thomas Lord Audley School in Colchester. Our students came up against some very stiff opposition from schools from all over Essex and beyond. Alt-hough they did not win, they should feel really proud of themselves for competing in such a daunting event. The students were:

Georgea Bushby, Robert Lynch, Kourtney Barker, Annie May Kitchener, Holly Cunningham, Phoung Bui, Luke Harrison, Shannon Hynes Garton, Emily Kirby, Chelsi Morris and Chloe Harris.

Nicola Boyd, Samuel Curtis, Jasmine Metcalfe and Casey Brown Cooke also deserve a mention for competing in the preliminary round at St Benedict’s College back in March.

We are now putting the final arrangements in place for our annual trip to Paris. This has been running for over ten years now and we hope for an equally successful visit in 2015.
