Design, Engineer, Construct Presentation

40 students who are studying for a GCSE in Design, Engineer, Construct made a presentation to industry professionals on Monday.

As part of the course they have to choose one of four redevelopment sites across the Tendring District and come up with their own development scheme. The projects include cinemas, gyms and shopping malls.

Tendring District Council (TDC) Planning Team Leader Alison Newland visited the school earlier this year to explain about how to become a planning officer.

The group has also had visits from builders, structural engineers, surveyors, and architects to give them an insight into their various professions.

Mrs Newland and TDC planning colleague Matt Lang returned this week to help make up a panel of experts to give feedback on the various projects.

“The schemes they came up with were very good and we were very impressed with the standard of their work and the way they were able to present their proposals,” said Mrs Newland. “We were pleased to be able to support them with this qualification which will hopefully extend into an A-level in the future. Some of the group may well end up applying for jobs at the Council and helping to shape the future District’s built environment.”
