Africa comes to CCA!

On the 23rd January the Dance Department welcomed a traditional African dancer to the Academy who taught a series of workshops to our year 7 students. Our students learned about how elements of traditional African culture and the environment have inspired the movements.

Here is what some of the students had to say:

Tony Collins – ‘It was really fun, I liked the movements. It was a fun experience.’

Reece Brockman – ‘It was fun and good to learn something new.’

Macey-Ann Brown – ‘I thought that is was really fun because it was different and we got to learn something new.’

Faith Lowe – ‘It was awesome! I loved it!’

Nurture Dogs Intervention

Inner College have been given a fantastic opportunity to work with an animal centre called ‘Nurture Dogs’.

Inner college first started fund raising for Nurture Dogs in Christmas 2013, when we held our Christmas fair! All of the money raised has gone to Nurture dogs to help them fund for two stables that they need to build for two of their donkeys.

Inner college have been fortunate enough to be given a 6 week program with the Nurture Dog team. Two members of the team Gil and Dave along with 5 of their specially chosen dogs, visit Inner College every Friday. They conduct a one hour intervention session with 8 students who have been carefully selected. We think these students will benefit the most from the therapeutic sessions and who will be successful in achieving their goals and showing their full potential.

So far Inner College has completed two very successful weeks with the Nurture Dog team, and students have already started to show improvements in their selected target areas.

During the interventions sessions, our students have worked individually and as a team to complete tasks to help improve team building, confidence and social skills. During the sessions the atmosphere is calm and collected and positive attitudes fill the room. Students and staff are fully enjoying the experience with the Nurture Dogs team and it is proving to be a real success!
