Year 7 Positive Points

As we approach the end of this half term I thought it would be appropriate to reflect on this half term. Well, 2400 positive points in 6 weeks, attendance percentages continue to rise to above 95% and progress improvements increasing can't be bad can it so well done to all!

A special mention has to go to 7O1 and 7C1 who have been accessing and getting correct GCSE KS4 maths work at level 6 and 7 which are your Amber and Green targets. I have to say I am really impressed with your efforts.

Keep that level of progress up as the maximum effort is needed until the very last minute this academic year. Don't start stopping!

Date for your diary - 26th June is Year 7 celebration evening. Details to follow.

It just leaves me to say please have a restful, safe and relaxing week off.

Year 8 8PIC 8IGHTS!

As we draw to the end of yet another 8PIC half term, I thought I’d share with you some emails I’ve received from staff across the curriculum. As a Year team are exceptionally proud of the hard work and dedication that the students are putting into their studies. Congratulations…

Brandon and Newman have just pretty much taught the entire Dance lesson!

They led the starter activity discussion and demonstrations and then it just snowballed. They explained to the class their go4 marks and how they were all going to hit the level 5s by the end of the lesson. They went on to explain and demonstrate how that was going to happen and worked with each group in turn to offer feedback.

Simply amazing

Just a quick one to say how impressed I have been with Elis’ attitude in Eng-lish the last few lessons. She is by far the hardest working student in the class and has produced some fantastic work. She takes tasks and puts her own spin on them in a very original way and will always help others in the class whether it’s sharing answers, lending a pen or giving advice. If you see her, please pass on my praise!

Drama 8O1

I just wanted to let you know how amazing this Drama group are!! They also leave me feeling really fulfilled that they have progressed and achieved with them either achieving a 5a or 6c for their performance assessment today. Holly Leather and Chelsea Jordan achieved a 6b!!

They achieved 2 commendations and the rest of the group all achieved one.

I love this group, they always work hard, put in 100% effort and are just a real pleasure.

Have a restful, enjoyable half term.

Year 9 Options

I want to take this opportunity to welcome to year 9 Ms Preston to the year 9 office as the year groups new PSA, I want to congratulate her for all her hard work so far on taking up the post. I would also like to thank Mr Simpson and Ms Wenzell who have been a fantastic support and worked extremely hard over the last term half term in supporting the students.

Year 9 really are counting down to starting options and have been learning about revision techniques ready to support their learning over the next couple of years. Student were due to take part in end of unit tests on their return after the half term break in lessons. This will now not be taking place instead we look forward to preparing the student for their future options and end of year exams based on the GCSE specs they are following more details to follow.

The photo above is of the teams that took place in the public speaking competition last week where we had some fantastic students taking part, well done to all.

Year 10 Speak out Challenge

Another very busy week in year 10 this week! The majority of the students have had their second IGCSE English Literature exam. Again, the students' behaviour and attitude to this exam was exemplary.

Congratulations this week must go to Ben Rockell. Ben took part in the regional final of The Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge in Colchester. Ben delivered an amazing speech entitled 'From communism with love'. His delivery, in front of more than 200 people, was outstanding. It was an absolute pleasure to see a member of Year 10 perform so confidently and eloquently. He was like a seasoned professional!

We have also spent some time this week talking to Year 10 students about the important issue of how we are perceived in the community. It is important that we all work together to remind students that they need to be very mindful, before and after school, that they are sharing the pathways and roads with members of the public and therefore should be respectful and mindful that a large group of teenagers can appear intimidating to older members of the community. Year 10 students represent the Academy very positively, on the whole and I am very proud of the way that they conduct themselves.

I do hope that everybody has a lovely half term break and I hope that the sun shines for us all!
