Year 7 Highlights of the Year

As the end of Year 7 is fast approaching, I asked my tutor group to reflect on what had been their highlights of their first year at CCA. Here are some of their responses:

“Teachers have helped me with my learning and I have improved because of them”

“I really enjoyed the visits to Danbury and London Dungeon”

“I have made new friends”

“I enjoy being on the student council”

“Getting through to the football final”

I am pleased to hear of these positive reports that 7MLA have shared and they are a reflection of the positive attitudes they have demonstrated during the year.

Well done to all of Year 7 for your hard work so far!

Year 8 Royal Holloway Visit

Last Friday, I was lucky enough to accompany a selection of Year 8 and 9 students on a trip to the Royal Holloway University, London. The purpose of the trip was to give students a taste of higher level education; from student life to the potential courses available. The group was divided up into smaller groups and a university ambassador was linked to each group to support and answer any questions the students may have.

It was refreshing to see the students captivated on their tour of the campus – they were absolutely blown away by the Flounders library in all its antique glory! The students became slightly distracted upon seeing the preparations for the Summer Ball in which Rizzle Kicks were headlining and rumoured to already be on campus!

Finally, students got the opportunity to work in a typical lecture hall to devise a new social club which were then presented back to the rest of the group.

The students were a real credit to the Academy and to hear them talking about their desires to go on to university was truly uplifting.

Year Eight scooped up the prizes at the community centre this week. Caitlin Minns and Jordan Fincher show their talents in the 'Pick and Mix' pool and darts. Keeping it 8PIC! Well done!

Year 9 Active IQ

This week year 9 students have been taking place in the Skills Force programme. This is all about engaging students in learning and working together as a team. They have been undertaking tasks such as bridge building to show them the positive effects of being able to work together.

A number of our year 9’s are also doing the Active IQ Qualification. This is in collaboration with Chelmsford Prison Service to educate children how to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

We are also very proud to have some year 9 students attending the first ever CCA Sports Awards Evening tomorrow and we look forward to hearing how they all get on.

Continue with the hard work year 9, only 5 weeks till summer.

Year 10 Uniform Reminder

It’s been lovely to enjoy some better weather this week and the students appear to have enjoyed getting some more use out of the school field. Unfortunately, with this better weather, we have also noticed that more and more students in Year 10 are wearing skirts which are inappropriately short for school. The uniform protocol states that skirts should be knee length. Students in each Year group will be isolated with their tutors if they fail to adhere to the uniform protocols. On the whole, Year ten uniform is fabulous but there are a small number of students who need to remind themselves of the uniform expectations.

We only have a very limited number of spaces left on our trip to Thorpe Park on July 10th. If you wish for your child to be included in this trip, please do send the money in to school with your child as soon as possible.

Employability for Life

I am proud to announce CCA's first cohort of students to pass the Employability for Life charter. Students collected evidence to demonstrate excellent levels of attendance, punctuality, professional conduct, motivation and communication in order to receive either a Bronze, Silver or Gold certificate.

The certificates were presented in students' Employability for Life folders, which they can now take with them to future interviews to show the employability skills they have built up whilst at CCA.

Year 10 will be next to go through the programme and I look forward to awarding even more certificates next year.

Year 11 Prom Date

I am very excited to announce further details about this summer’s Year 11 Prom. The date for this year’s prom will be on Friday 27th June 2014, at Clacton Coastal Academy. The Prom will start at 7pm and finish at approximately 10:30pm. Our students have decided on a Masked Ball this year; as you can imagine, it is going to be quite an event!

Parents/carers and family are welcome to attend the arrivals as a spectator but please do bear in mind that Pathfields Road will become very congested. Please do not attempt to drive down the road as it will be coned off to allow for limousine arrivals etc. Please park further away from the school and walk the remainder of the way. Space is very limited and we respectfully ask that that you move back from the railings to allow everyone the chance to view our students arriving.

We look forward to seeing you there!
