Year 7 Bikeability

"Can you handle this? Year 7 spokesperson, put the brakes on road dangers, time to peddle Bikeability"

Here at CCA the safety of the children whilst travelling to and from school is as important as when they are in school. At CCA we are very aware that a significant number of students cycle here.

Before Christmas and Easter a project linked to Essex County Council called Bikeability took place. Bikeability is all about linking cycling with safety so therefore knowing the road, knowing how to be safe on the roads and what to look out for when on the road.

The year 7’s who took part in the project were fantastic ambassadors and a credit to the academy. Well done! Bikeability will be running again in July so please return the

letters sent out last week if you wish to take part.

Sporting Achievements It’s been a busy week for our sporting students! I was delighted to see so many of our Year Eight’s awarded in the Sports Awards last Friday in recognition of their outstanding dedication to sport over this Academic Year. Congratulations to all who were involved. Keeping in with the sporting success, I was thrilled to hear our 8pic rounder’s team won against the Colne this week! Well done!

SMSC Spotlight

I was so proud to receive the following email this week from SMSC celebrating a student’s maturity; We were looking at Charities in SMSC today and Women’s Aid was one of them. I have to send you what one of the boys wrote and read it out: “I think Women’s Aid is the most important because no woman deserves to be treated like a punching bag because:

1. They are beautiful creatures

2. They’re fragile and should be treated with respect

3. They are one of the most important things in a man’s

life therefore the man should treasure them not harm them.

This was an absolute delight to receive and read and is a true testament to the caring nature of our Year Eight students.

Yea r 9 Attendance Rewards

Year 9 are living the life fantastic, there is so much good stuff going on around the academy to report on this week. Attendance: Big drive and push for the last 5 weeks of term, the year 9 team have launched a challenge to all the students to be in 100% over these next few weeks to receive big rewards. £10 is on offer each week to one lucky winner with 100% attendance. We also have the Ice cream reward for any student who has 100% attendance over this half term. Please continue to support the students getting in on time as it is such an important time of year.

Options taster sessions: Next week will be the launch of the options taster sessions. These will start taking place next week for the next 3 weeks until the end of the year. Students will have 2 double sessions each day on a Tuesday and Thursday. It is really important that students are in to access these sessions so they get a good understanding of what is required of the subject.

What else has been happening in the world of year 9? I had the opportunity to be witness to DA9A1 performing some street dance and I was part of the show! With them leaping and rolling over me. I was very impressed with the boys attitude and determination. A small group of student went on a taster session with Rally Sport engineering group in Colchester and they came back very enthusiastic and can’t wait for the course to start!

Year 10 Celebrate!

It's a busy time in year 10 at the moment but I am pleased to be able to report that there is still lots of positive things to celebrate in the Year group. I had the pleasure of attending the PE Awards evening last week and it was great to see so many Year 10 students receiving awards for being a part of the sports team. A special congratulations must go to Vicky Anderson who won the award for 'Outstanding contribution to Sport at CCA'. An amazing achievement. Well done, Vicky! You will be receiving notifications in the post early next week about your child's work experience placement. Please could I ask that parents and carers sign the permission slip and return to the school ASAP? It is vital that these are signed before your child will be allowed to complete work experience. This will provide many amazing opportunities for our students to experience 'working life' and will hopefully give them a good insight in to the field of work they have chosen. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and carers for your support in ensuring that your child is wearing correct uniform to school. There has been a marked improvement over the last week and has been made possible due to the joined up effort of students, parents and staff.

My thanks to you all.
