Year 7 Progress!

It’s the final week of term before the Easter break and I would just like to congratulate the whole of year 7 on their excellence this half term. The huge amount of progress being made has resulted in lots of positive comments this half term, keep it up! Although the attendance of the year group is pretty good for this time of year (96%) we still need to strive to improve it. Let’s hit that 98% mark after Easter! After all of your hard work since Christmas it’s time you guys got a little break, so have a safe and fun Easter, coming back to school refreshed and ready to learn in April. A final thank you to parents, who have been very supportive in helping our students to achieve the best progress possible.

Year 8 Options Evening

Year 8 have been very busy engaging in the options meetings with the executive team, many of these are now signposted to take place after Easter. We had a very successful Parents and Options Evening on Thursday, thank you to all the parents that attended. If you need any help with options please do not hesitate to call, options forms need to be back with the year office on the 24th of April.

Have a wonderful break year 8. You deserve it. Well done on a very successful term.

Year 9 Mighty Nines!

As we draw to the end of another busy term, I would like to leave by sharing some of the wonderful emails I have received over the last week;

Liam Cook Just a quick note to say how pleased I was with Liam Cook in English today - he moved both the LSA and I to tears! He has tried so hard with his Romeo and Juliet and produced some really good work, really thinking about what he has been doing. I have been very impressed and most appreciative. - Ms Scalco.

EN9X3 I had a superb English lesson with 9X3 yesterday they were 100% on task, 100% focussed and 100% outstanding! A real pleasure to be involved in this lesson - and their learning journey - Mrs Page.

EN9Y4 I wanted to send an email praising the learning and focus of my Year 9 English group. They have produced some superb work. They have been engaged in learning, given some great feedback, contributed well in discussion and been all round superstars.

A special mention goes to Chelsie, Maria, Jade, Jordan, Megan, Lucy, Emily, India, Rhys, Holly, Abbie, Summah, Lewis, Darren, Ben and Mollie. In addition, Chelsie Moore-Copp has been outstanding - I can't praise her enough. As well as being on target and focused in her own work she finds time to help all those around her. She often stops what she is doing to give advice and direction. She often takes time to explain the meaning of words or to give advice on how to develop a piece of work for someone else on her table - she is an absolute gem and a true pleasure to have as part of this class - Mrs Page.

Jasmine Metcalfe (FR9X1) Excellent achievement, self motivation.

Katherine Thurston (FR9Y2) Superb work throughout the term.

Mimi Lee Exceptionally good attitude to learning 9IBA.

From Mrs Barton.

Beth Taylor has been a fantastic PE role model

representing the Academy in both netball, football and cricket. In lesson she works hard and is achieving high levels, she is also pivotal in the success of others.

Tia Apps has also showed excellent progress and determination in lesson.

From Miss McLaren.

Charlie Killick, Sam Daly, Lorna Sharpe all achieved the highest grades in their ICT exam demonstrating pleasing progress!

Jade Kennedy and Molly Cook have continued to maintain their effort throughout the year in Computer Science - well done!

From Ms Edwards.

Ellie Gibson always works so hard in Geography and has shown real improvements this year compared to previous years. Her attitude in class is spot-on and she comes up with comments and questions that no one else seems to, which makes others around her even more interested in what is going on. - Mr Percival.

Congratulations to all for a fabulous term. Have a fantastic Easter - keep safe both out in the community and on line.

A very proud Year 9 team.

Miss Blagrove

Year 10 Exams

The Year 10 exams will be taking place from Monday 20th April 2015 to Thursday 23rd April 2015. Students will, for the most part, be sitting their different subject exams in one of the main halls. Students will be given an exam timetable in advance so they know where they have to be and at what time. There are strict protocols that have to be followed else students risk being disqualified. Whilst these exams are, in most cases, a practice to get them ready for the ‘real thing’ later in Key Stage 4, it is important that our Year 10 students are well prepared both in terms of the amount of revision they do as well as how they behave. Please find below a reminder of the Academy’s examination protocols. We wish all Year 10 students the best of luck in their examinations.

Year 11 Easter Revision Sessions

It’s been a really busy week in Year 11 with students undertaking external exams in Art, Photography, PE and Business and Communications. I’m proud to report that all the students conducted themselves in a mature way and clearly understood and appreciated the importance of performing at their very best.

Many students also had the opportunity to take part in a Sixth Form Taster day which was hugely successful. Pictures to follow next week!

Students have now been given their timetables for Easter revision and copies have been sent home to parents and carers. Please do contact the Year office if you should have any queries about these sessions. It is extremely important that students attend as many of these as possible – it will really support them to achieve some great results in the Summer. As Mr Hellard often says in assembly ‘Fail to prepare, prepare to fail’.

A big well done to Georgia Clemenson who was top of the Leaver’s miles league this week. A great achievement and she is well on her way to winning a place on the end of year trip, fully paid for.

I’d like to wish all Year 11 students, parents and carers a wonderful Easter break – I look forward to seeing so many of you in school over the coming two weeks!
